The aesthetics of a smile are influenced by the teeth and also by the gums. Due to significant color difference between teeth and gums, any imperfections in gum tissue around teeth are very noticeable. The final result of cosmetic dental work may not be fully satisfying for the patient if these imperfections are not also corrected. Keeping this in mind, at Charme Clinique, in addition to well-known aesthetic dentistry treatments, we also offer unique periodontal surgical services to ensure that your smile truly dazzles.
Common problems with tissues surrounding teeth include:
- Excessive gum coverage of tooth surface compared to adjacent teeth, which causes an asymmetric smile. This is usually a result of past gum inflammation, local injuries, or subgingival caries (cavities forming under the gum).
- Gum overgrowth affecting all teeth. This leads to a "gummy smile" – short teeth with a large amount of visible gum tissue. For many people, this is a significant aesthetic discomfort that lowers self-esteem.
In such cases, periodontal surgery can be highly effective. Gum line correction (gingivoplasty or gingivectomy) can dramatically change the appearance of a smile by restoring proper proportions between teeth and gums.
The procedure involves removing excess gum tissue to shape the gum line (the so-called "gingival crown"). It is performed under local anesthesia. The healing process takes from 2 weeks to a month, depending on the extent of the procedure.
And results are spectacular.
