Pre-Prosthodontic Surgical Treatment

A dental surgeon can also help prepare a patient for prosthetic treatment. This may involve:

  • Removal of bone growths or fibrous folds (abnormally fused tissue) that that would prevent the execution of prosthetic therapy.
  • Correction of the attachment of the lip and tongue frenulum (also called lingual frenectomy); a low attachment of the frenulum can significantly hinder both orthodontic and prosthetic treatment and often exacerbates an existing malocclusion.
